Additional Information
Gordon Reid (1895-1989) was born in Old Town, Bella Bella and was educated at the Coqualeetza residential school. Reid started working with his uncle on one of the first native operated fishing vessels as a young teenager. He was the first native to get his Masters Certificate (Navigation) and continued to work on numerous commercial vessels until his retirement at age 78. Reid was proud of his culture and was regarded as a knowledgeable native historian. In 1981, Reid was presented with a Lifetime Membership in the Native Brotherhood of British Columbia.
